The PDP presidential candidate Alhaji Sule Lamido who addressed newsmen during his visit to PDP Lagos State chapter open up how President Buhari will lose the election, stating why Nigerians will not return him as their president in 2019. When was asked if he becomes his party’s candidate if he could unseat the incumbent president.
He said “Let me in my own little way remind Nigerians that we are a country, which is very serious. Somehow in the last five to seven years, we seem to have submitted to our emotions and sentiments about issues in the country. That is why we keep on thinking of alternatives because we don’t seem to believe in ourselves. In our history, PDP came in 1999, and like it or not, the party was able to restore Nigeria and get the country stabilized and united for development to take place. Naturally, it takes time for a nation to grow into a serious nation because there is a number of challenges ahead”.
“But in Nigeria, we believe in something ad-hoc that was why we went into something like the APC, purely ad-hoc, but now it has failed. It is another contraption or whatever it is. We must be original, we must believe in ourselves, we cant be running from one place to another because of challenges, we must stay in one place and tackle issues headlong. We are the problem, not the nomenclature, not the parties; it is the leaders”.
“So, when you move from PDP to APC, now you are saying it is failing that both are devils and now you want another one. If the new one fails, where do you go again? We should be able to stand up and ask if we are serious as a people. We must stand up collectively and do things right. For me, APC was a formation of frustration through emotions, sentiments, and blackmail and that got the PDP sacked. Now, APC has been there for three years and they are now saying that the PDP caused their failure of performance”.
“The answer to Nigeria is not a Third Force, but the PDP, which is a party with history, a party with vision and owned by Nigerians”.
“In 2019, the coast is very clear for the PDP because there is no way APC will win. Look at the country, are we united? Are we stable? Are we prosperous? Are we secure? We have become a world embarrassment; we are becoming an ancient nation. So, PDP will come back in 2019. There is nothing Buhari can do, he won’t come back in 2019. There is no way, Buhari will never come back no matter what he does. He knows he is a contraption, who rode on the emotions of the Nigerian people based on blackmail, sentiment and real hate speech because APC is a party of hate heroes”.
Sule was told that people may say that the party seems to have derailed given what transpired at the party’s last National Convention.
He responded and say “What happened at the convention? Tell me what happened at the convention, I want to know?
There is the belief that a new power bloc has taken over the party”…
“Look, after APC got power they are saying Buhari has been hijacked by a cabal, aren’t they saying so? No matter what you do people will complain. The PDP held its convention, somebody won and others lost. So, because you lost doesn’t mean something is wrong. This issue of self-wish trying to make it look as if it is when you win that things are normal should be discouraged.
When people lose they say it is impunity and when they win it is a victory for democracy. If we want to become a serious nation, we should be able to look at our country and our history and look at where we stand. The things we are doing in this country today is embarrassing”.
He was asked on the issue how APC handled the Dapchi girls issue if it was in a better way than how PDP handled the Chibok girls abduction in 2014?
He Said “So, the whole purpose is to compete with the PDP? If PDP has failed, this government should not tow that line as well, otherwise, what is the change they are talking about? They are supposed to provide security such that their won’t any kidnap in the first place. So, it is now a competition? This is terribly morbid. The government must secure Nigerians so that nobody was kidnapped”.
“The President will go to Yobe and you will see Air Force flying over his head to secure him and this is the same Yobe that Boko Haram came to took our children in convoy of vehicles and there was no aircraft. They also returned in the same convoy with jubilation and there was no aircraft, please give me a break. We have become our own embarrassment in the world”.
He also said. “The primary purpose of any government is to secure lives and property. So, are we in government to compete? Was that the purpose? For the APC to allow the kidnap in the first place, they failed. So, they (insurgents) went in convoys to kidnap the girls and nobody saw them. On their own volition, they came back with the girls with the same convoys, with fanfare and the girls came back with luggage, yet they (insurgents) can’t be traced. The world is laughing at us”.
When asked if the PDP decides to pick a consensus candidate for the 2019 presidential election if he would agree to that to boost the party’s chances in the election.
He answered “You don’t build issues on a hypothesis. When the issue of consensus comes, we will talk about it. Nigeria has been there for me. I have been a governor, minister, and party leader among others. This country made it possible. I also fought for the enthronement of democracy and got imprisoned with Abubakar Rimi by the regime of late General Sani Abacha in 1998. My aspiration is not desperation. I want to give back to Nigeria”.
When asked what he can do differently if elected as
He said. “First, you must have a clear notion of what is government and the leadership responsibilities in government. When you have a government, which says from the first day that it is only going to govern, work and render service to those who gave it the election, that government has lost legitimacy. From the first day, Buhari said he is only going to give much to people where he got the votes. Somehow I feel frightened because this country is delinking, the country is becoming a war-zone because you put in people who have no idea of governance in government, people who came as hate heroes, people who came to put pain in Nigeria and Nigerians, people who are terribly arrogant and deluded”.
“Some people see Nigeria as a conquered territory and as a citizen, you can’t even speak as a Nigerian. When there is an injustice, then there can’t be unity. This government is actually one of injustice, blackmail, and lies. They are even dramatizing deaths, comparing deaths in Benue and Zamfara; it is very morbid for God’s sake. There are so many thieves in government, public and private sectors”.
He finally added that Nigerians should be concerned about the state of the nation by voting for the right person in 2019. “We can only reduce our current pains through collective efforts”.
“I feel terribly pained about the things happening in the country. There is hatred, bloodshed, corruption in government and private sectors. I am very concerned because we can’t continue like this. For how long shall we continue like this? We are in this situation because we have lost our values as a people”.
