Honey at the first place is a thick golden liquid produced by bees, it is sweet and one of the most valued liquid on earth due to it health and medicinal benefit.
The production of Honey is one of the mysteries of life, and this is a succinct explanation on how Honey is been produced by Bees.
Bees feed on Nectar of flowers, the nectar of flower are sweet in taste is a sugary liquid from flowering plant, so bee extract this nectar as its food using its long tube like tongue which resembles that of mosquitoes use in feeding human blood.
The extraction of this nectar by bee is done using the tube like tongue and the nectar is stored in the bee’s extra stomach called “Crop” when the extraction took place, the bee does not only extract the nectar but some useful enzymes. The function of this enzyme is that it transform the nectar’s chemical composition and pH to a state in which it can be stored for a log-period of time, if the nectar is not enzymised it wouldn’t be possible for the bee to store this nectar up to winter period which is the period the bee needs the nectar most for food.
After the extraction of this nectar by the bee the bee return to it’s home call hive, while the bee was traveling to it hive, the nectar in it extra stomach”Crop” is undergoing partial digestion, so when the bee gets to it hive, it will the regurgitate i.e bring out the swallowed nectar just like you see ruminant like goat do, so the bee will bring out the nectar back to its mouth and then transferred it to another bee’s mouth. This other bee collect the nectar and stored them in the honeycomb.
Once the nectar is in the comb the bee carried out a special duty of making the nectar which is in a viscous form to become thick. The bee make sure its fan the nectar with its wing to hastened water evaporation, when the water content is remove the honey now have a thick nature you always see.
When the bee sees that the water content is remove, it now secret a liquid from its abdomen which harden and form a beewax. The function of the beewax form is to seal the comb so that the honey will be persevered for rainy days, hunger days, this is when Man now go get the honey from the comb for it own usage and consumption, due to it numerous medicinal and health benefit.
