…unveil 4-point agenda for Eket people
…moves motion for Chairmanship debate for Ekid aspirants

Frontline Peoples Democratic Party Chairmanship aspirant in Eket Local Government Area, Mr David Emmanuel Umem has clearly stated that ‘he is the long awaited answer for every marginalised sons and daughters of Ekid land.’
Umem made the statement on Saturday when his campaign entourage tagged ‘FRESH BREEZE’ arrived the PDP Eket Chapter office amid fanfare and jubilation to consult the party EXCO on his ambition to mount the saddle of leadership in the LGA.
In the ‘FRESH BREEZE’ campaign entourage were, Mr Kufre Sam, the Campaign DG, Mr Ayubong Ekanem, Eld. Emmanuel Monday, Mr Emmanuel Sam, Mr Emmanuel James, Mr Emmanuel Ekiko among others.
Also, the team was received by the Chapter Chairman, Obong Iwaad Emmanuel Mbong, Madam Florence Udoh, Obongawan Lucy Akwa, Mr Ayubong Ekanem, Hon. Thomas, Mr Godwin Ekpo, Prof. Ezekiel Ebitu, Comr. Abasiubong Assam, Hon. Inyang Ebuk, Comr Gordian among others.
Unveiling his plans for the Ekid people if voted into people, Umem hinted that it was time for fresh air to be breathed into the local government. He said his campaign is centred on a 4-point agenda which include, Environment (waste management), Science & Tech (Education), Agriculture and Industrialization.
The Eket LG Chairmanship aspirant disclosed that his decision to join the race is birthed to help the Ekid people rediscover, explore and leverage on the abundance of the land which according to him can translate to the sustainability and sufficiency of their resources.
Umem pointed out that the ‘ancient centre of wisdom’ had long lost its glory and pride owing to the lack of responsive, strategic and people oriented development in the area. He stressed that the time has come for the people to fully utilised the abundant natural resources, investment in human capital development and focus on qualitative education for the Ekid child.
He intimated the party EXCO and stakeholders that if voted, his administration will work energetically to provide sustainable jobs for more than 1500 Ekid people, maintaining that a stern focus on job creation can address the alarming unemployment rate in the local government and boost of the LG’s internal revenue.
He noted that as the world is grappling with swift recovery from the COVID-19 realities, his administration will prioritize education and agriculture through the use of science and tech and also complement the COMPLETION AGENDA of Governor Udom Emmanuel.
He said, “Digitalization has come to stay in the world, this is the time we should use all means and measures to grap this opportunity as it beckons. In the light of this, i will build a standard and digital computer village in Eket to enable my people to be acquainted with Science and Technology, compete with their contemporaries in the society as part of measures to combat the deteriorating nature in our education sector and give it a new phase.
Continuing, “Since industrialization has been considered as the optimum point of development, courtesy of my administration, Governor Udom Emmanuel will lay a foundation of the very first factory in Eket which will provide not fewer than 1,500 job opportunities for our teeming youths.
“Agriculture is one of the key factors in my administration to bring about food sufficiency to every home in Eket and Akwa Ibom at large which I’m happy to announce to you that there will be an initiative called ‘One Village, One Produce’. This will give an opportunity for every home to venture into agriculture be it subsistent or commercial”. He added.
He however solicited to the party Executives to organize a debate for all aspirants in the area, adding that the debate will serve as an open floor for all aspirants to avail the people on plans they have for the local government.
Earlier, the Campaign Director General of the ‘Fresh Breeze’ (David Umem Campaign) train, Mr Kufre Sam in his introduction eulogized the Eket Chairmanship hopeful. He stated that the fresh breeze presumedly was necessary and timely as the area needs a proactive hand that can tackle the enormous challenges in the area while giving the focusing on sustainable development of Eket land.
Describing Mr Umem as a heavenly product packaged specially for the Eket people, the Campaign DG said, ”David Umem is God sent to address the pressing needs of our people. His antecedents have proven that he possesses the right mind, leadership qualities and drive to chart a new cause for Ekid people.
Also speaking, Barr. Emmanuel Udoh, a one-time Chairman of the area spoke glowingly of the personality of Mr Umem. He stressed that his antecedents and records in the private sector has been people oriented and the Ekid people bear testimony as beneficiaries of such humanly gestures.
Responding on behalf of the chapter executives of the party, Mr. Emmanuel Mbong expressed satisfaction over the kind attributes and persona of Umem. He hinted that the party has received the team in good faith and confidence, adding that the party will meet to deliberate on all the suggestions raised and possibly organize a debate for all aspirants to present their manifestos.
