…says he was rather the victim of electoral fraud
…disagrees with court ruling
Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio has washed his hands off the plight of University Don, Professor Peter Ogban who was few days ago sentenced to a 3-year jail term for falsifying the 2019 Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial election in favour of Akpabio.
Recall, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), had sued Soil Science Professor for manipulating the election result in favour of Sen. Akpabio who contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
Ogban was the returning officer in the senatorial election in Akwa Ibom North-West in 2019. He was prosecuted by INEC and found guilty by the court of altering the result of the election.
Distancing himself, Senator Akpabio faulted the decision of the High Court to link the Professor of Soil Science, with him. He disagreed with the court and insists the University Professor jailed for electoral fraud by the court didn’t work for him.
In a release signed by his Press Secretary, Anietie Ekong, the Minister described as unfounded, the decision that the electoral officer was convicted for rigging an election in his favour.
Akpabio however accused the professor of colluding with INEC and PDP to send him packing him from the National Assembly, maintaining that he was a victim of electoral fraud.
“Contrarily, Senator Akpabio was a victim of the fraudulent manipulation of the election of Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District held on 23rd February 2019. He is vindicated that the perpetrators of the electoral fraud are being brought to justice. At last the chickens are coming home to roost”.
