The sun shone and the sky drizzled a little, letting out some of the excitement in the hearts of residents of Onna Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State as Mary Remarkable Foundation offered free healthcare to people living in the area without discrimination.
True to its mission to serve humanity, the Foundation paid a preliminary visit to Onna two days before the outreach to carry out medical tests especially for people with eye problems.
The results were then used in creating corresponding medicated glasses to enhance reading to all who needed such.
The outreach which was proudly sponsored by Bokano, Platinum innovative, Ti-best Pharmacy and Geedee Food Enterprise had over 400 cases attended to.
Pastor Nketiah Moses, a beneficiary who has had a sight defect for more than seven years expressed his unlimited joy after receiving care and support from the foundation.
“I’m so delighted, I’m so grateful, I’m so happy. I never believed that what I’m seeing now can happen, really, in Nigeria today, I never believed, but I want to give thanks to God for giving Mary Remarkable as a blessing to this generation. I really really appreciate her and I say may the good God continue to bless her bountifully in Jesus name, Amen.”
As a pastor, Mr Nketiah shared the positive impact the healthcare will have in his ministerial advancement, “it’s over seven years now, I’ve been having challenges with my eyes and now that I’ve gotten the glasses, I can see very clearly, in fact, I’ve become refreshed.
It helps me very well as a pastor because sometimes, some of us used to preach with projectors and sometimes we don’t see clearly but with the glasses, I can see very clearly now, that’s one of the areas it helps me”, he added.
Mary Remarkable Foundation also distributed drugs to people whose eyes needed only drops and medication for correction as this was the case for many persons they met during their tour of Onna.
Apart from eye tests and giving out prescription glasses, Mary Remarkable Foundation also offered free medical consultation and treatment, deworming, distribution of free medications and mosquito insecticides, treated mosquito nets, sanitary pads as well as counselling, health talks, community education and sensitisation.
Malaria Parasite test, HIV Serology screening, Hepatitis B and C Screening, Random Blood Sugar Level test, Vital signs check, BP measurement and Anthropometric evaluations were all conducted by the NGO.
As a non-profit and non-Governmental Foundation, Mary Remarkable seeks to promote good health, create ways to meet the needs of the less privileged as well as reach out to as many as possible through their continuous sojourn to all parts of the world.
With a heart full of joy and satisfaction in touching lives in Akwa Ibom State as a continued process towards achieving the goals of her foundation, Remarkable Mary said, “We gave out about 30 prescribed glasses and attended to over 100 people with eye issues as we gave out eye drops and drugs for free.
Over 400 other beneficiaries including children, mothers and elderly people were given all kinds of drugs like anti-malarial, antibiotics, drugs for deworming etc to mention a few upon meeting our doctors.
Mary Remarkable Foundation is self-funded, with support from meaningful individuals, companies and organizations towards actualizing our mission,” she said.
