Favour Ofili, Nigeria’s track and field sprinter has qualified for the Women’s 200metres race, putting the country in the finals 28 years after.
The last time Nigeria made it to the finals of the Women’s 200m Olympics was in Atlanta 1996 with Mary Onyali won a Bronze medal.
She becomes the first Nigerian woman after 28 years to squash the record.
She finished at second place with an impressive record time 2.05 seconds closely behind Saint Lucia star, Julien Alfred who won the race with a record time of 21.98 seconds.
McKenzie Long of the United States finished third place with a record time of 22:30 seconds.

Ofili’s new record has gained her an automatic spot in the finals set to hold on Wednesday.
