Renowned Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has turned himself in to the authorities earlier today at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja.
Accompanied by his legal counsel and a representative from his family, the artist took the responsible step of turning himself in for an alleged assault on a police officer.
Seun assaulted a police officer at the third mainland bridge in Lagos on Saturday.
The incident has sparked nationwide debate and brought issues of police accountability to the forefront once again.

The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, on Saturday, had call for the arrest of the singer over the incident.
The directive was issued in an official statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, as a response to a video that recently surfaced, capturing the musician allegedly assaulting a police officer in uniform on the bustling Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.
The IGP had assured the Nigerian public that acts of contempt or disdain towards symbols of authority would not be tolerated.
He reiterated that offenders involved in such hideous crimes will be swiftly brought to justice, serving as a stern warning to others who may consider similar actions.
On Monday, May 15, 2023, in a statement released by spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, stated on his Twitter page that Seun has been placed under arrest.
He also expressed gratitude for the public’s concern and assured that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly, transparently, and professionally.
The Command has promised that justice will be served for all parties involved in the incident, emphasizing the importance of accountability within the law enforcement system.

Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, in the early hours of today turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, in company of his lawyer and family representative.
He has been placed under arrest in line with the law.
The Command appreciates the public for their concern and assures that the ongoing investigation will be detailed, transparent, professionally pursued; and justice will be manifestly served for all parties involved.
