The 9th edition of the highly anticipated Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) unfolded in a spectacle of glitz and glamour at the prestigious Eko Hotels & Suites on Saturday, May 20, 2023.

The event brought together a star-studded array of celebrities from Nigeria and beyond, all showcasing their impeccable fashion sense on the black carpet.

The evening’s festivities were expertly hosted by the charismatic Nigerian personality, Ik Osakioduwa, and the radiant former Miss Universe 2019, Zozibini Tunzi, who brought their unique charm and wit to the stage.

The audience were treated to electrifying performances by some of Africa’s most talented musicians, including the sensational Tiwa Savage, ‘who’s your guy’ crooner, Spyro, and the ever-entertaining Iyanya, who kept the crowd on their feet with their unforgettable melodies.

The first award of the night, the highly anticipated Best Sound Editor in Movie or TV Series, set the tone for the exceptional talent showcased throughout the evening.

Anu Afolayan emerged victorious in this category for his exceptional work on the critically acclaimed movie, ‘Anikulapo.’

As the night unfolded, another breathtaking moment took center stage when the legendary actress Patience Ozokwor, fondly known as Mama G, was honored with the prestigious Industry Merit Award.

Mama G’s immense contributions to the Nigerian film industry have made her a beloved icon, and this recognition pays homage to her incredible talent, versatility, and lasting impact.

Tobi Bakre also achieved a significant milestone by winning his inaugural AMVCA in the highly competitive Best Actor in a Drama category.

His outstanding performance in the movie ‘Brotherhood’ propelled him to this well-deserved victory.
