Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), tendered his resignation on Sunday, July 17, 2013.
The resignation comes ahead of the crucial National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings, originally scheduled for July 10 and 11, but later postponed and rescheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.
Speculations abound regarding the reasons behind Adamu’s resignation, with sources citing a perceived “gang up” and imminent humiliation during the upcoming party meetings.
According to reliable sources within the APC, Adamu’s resignation letter was sent to the Presidential Villa in Abuja, addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is currently attending the African Union (AU) meeting in Kenya.

However, due to the President’s absence, the letter was instead delivered to the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.
While some insiders claim that Adamu resigned due to pressure orchestrated by influential individuals close to President Tinubu, who allegedly sought to embarrass him during the upcoming meetings, other sources deny these reports.
It is important to note that Adamu himself declined to comment on the matter until President Tinubu returns from the AU’s meeting, indicating the sensitivity and complexity of the situation.
In recent times, the APC, Nigeria’s ruling party, has been facing internal conflicts and power struggles.
The rift between Adamu and some governors of the party from the North, stemming from his declaration of former Senate President Ahmad Lawan as the consensus candidate for the presidential primaries, had caused a wave of disagreement within the party.
The dispute resulted in the party’s choice to open the presidential ticket race, which Tinubu won.
The latest controversy surrounding the list of principal officers announced by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker Tajudeen Abbas further raised tensions within the APC.
Adamu voiced his dissatisfaction with the appointments, resulting in a meeting at the Presidential Villa with President Tinubu and Senator Iyiola Omisore, the National Secretary of the party.
