Chelsea Football Club had sacked their head coach, Graham Potter, after a disappointing seven-month spell at the helm of the club.
Potter, who had been appointed on a five-year deal just last September, had won only seven of his 22 Premier League games in charge, a record that had ultimately led to his dismissal.
His tenure, which had promised so much, had been cut short in a manner that left many fans scratching their heads and asking questions.
But the club’s co-owners, Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, were quick to thank Potter for his contributions and to express their respect for him as a coach and a person.

“‘On behalf of everyone at the club, we want to thank Graham sincerely for his contribution to Chelsea.
“We have the highest degree of respect for Graham as a coach and as a person. He has always conducted himself with professionalism and integrity and we are all disappointed in this outcome.
“Along with our incredible fans, we will all be getting behind Bruno and the team as we focus on the rest of the season.
“We have 10 Premier League games remaining and a Champions League quarter final ahead. We will put every effort and commitment into every one of those games so that we can end the season on a high.”
That reference to “Bruno” was to Bruno Saltor, the former Brighton defender who had been appointed as interim head coach following Potter’s sacking.
Saltor’s first game in charge would be a home game against Liverpool on Tuesday, April 4, 2023.
Despite Chelsea’s defeat to Aston Villa in Potter’s final game in charge, they had put in a “positive performance,” as Potter himself had noted.
With the Champions League quarter-final looming, there was no time to dwell on the past.
The players knew that they had to put every effort and commitment into every game that remained, to salvage something from what had been a disappointing season.
