President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed confidence in Nigeria’s future as his tenure comes to an end today, May 28.
Addressing Nigerians in his farewell speech, Buhari at the end of his tenure as the democratically elected President of Nigeria, he expressed gratitude and called for the unity and progress of the nation.
Buhari acknowledged the successful transition of power from one elected government to another and praised the progress made in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
He emphasized the importance of working together to improve and sustain the country’s achievements, ensuring Nigeria’s rightful place among the community of nations.
He however urged all aggrieved parties in the 2023 general elections to accept the decisions of the courts and unite in building a better Nigeria, recognizing the right to seek redress through the legal system.
Also, he commended the determination and resilience of all presidential candidates and their political parties for placing their faith in the judicial system.
The outgoing President congratulated Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, his longtime political associate and President-Elect on his achievements, winning 2023 Presidential Elections, and expressed confidence in his leadership.
Reflecting on his eight-year tenure, President Buhari acknowledged the challenges faced and the commitment to delivering public goods and services to all Nigerians.
Buhari emphasized the importance of doing what is right and expressed his determination to steer the country back onto the path of correctness.
The President highlighted the electoral reforms implemented during his presidency, ensuring credible and transparent elections with reduced influence of money in politics.
He praised the private sector’s contribution to the economy, noting increased opportunities for Nigerians and successful management of global economic downturns, including the COVID-19 pandemic.
Regarding security, President Buhari mentioned the progress made in reducing banditry, terrorism, armed robbery, and other criminal activities.
He called on Nigerians to remain vigilant and support the security agencies in maintaining a safe environment.
President Buhari reaffirmed his commitment to combating corruption and acknowledged ongoing reforms in the federal civil service to create an efficient and citizen-oriented system.
On the foreign scene, he highlighted Nigeria’s growing influence and commended the National Assembly for their patriotism and role as a check on the executive arm of government.
Expressing gratitude to his supporters, President Buhari thanked those who prayed for his recovery during his illness in his first term and assured them of his continued prayers for Nigeria’s prosperity and peace.
