Burna Boy in Scandal as Police Arrest His Escorts For Opening Fire on Clubbers

Grammy Award Winner and ‘Last Last’ Crooner Damini Ogulu aka Burna Boy has landed himself in a messy scandal after alleged woo on married woman failed.

Sources say Burna Boy went clubbing at Club Cubana, Victoria Island Lagos on Wednesday in company of his orderlies when an altercation turned messy.

FactsreporterNG learnt Burna Boy tried wooing a married woman who was in the VIP section of the club with her husband and friends.

Report from the Bar Beach Police Division reveals Burna Boy visited the club about 4am on June 8 with his police officers.

One of the policemen identified as Inspector Ibrahim who was reportedly on mufti followed him inside while the other four officers waited outside.

Several account of eyewitnesses reveal that Burna Boy who was already seated in the VIP section with three women spotted the married woman and asked Ibrahim to invite her over to his table.

After a while, Burna Boy allegedly made a second attempt at wooing the lady despite knowing her status.

Sources say the second attempt infuriated the lady’s husband who wasn’t having it with the Nigerian singer.

An altercation ensued and got heated.

The reportedly heated altercation saw two other clubbers identified as Irebami Lawrence and Tolu sustaining bullet wounds from the shots fired by police officers attached to Burna Boy.

”As things were getting heated, Ibrahim brought out his service pistol and shot multiple times while Burna Boy was laughing,” said a senior policeman.

In the process, 27-year-old Lawrence was shot in the thigh while his friend, Tolu, was hit in the head by a bullet. This caused a commotion in the club.

It was learnt that Burna Boy and his crew then drove off to one of his properties at the Elegushi end of the Lekki-Epe Expressway before leaving for Lekki Phase 1.

“Aware of what he had done, Burna Boy took the next flight out without even informing the policemen. He only made a video call to them to inform them that he had travelled to Spain.

All his police escorts have been arrested and are currently at the Command headquarters,” a reliable source from the Lagos State Commissioner of Police disclosed.

In another swipe, sources who disclosed the victims were receiving treatment at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja have fingered the police for attempting to hide the singer because of his status.

Brother to one of the victim, Mr Jide who spoke with Sunday Scoop said his brother had undergone a surgery to remove the bullet from his thigh.

Jide said that his wounded brother, Irebami, who’s based in the United States of America flew into the country for a wedding last weekend.

In his conversation with Punch, Jide berated the management of Club Cubana for not doing enough to forestall the situation, adding that the club management had not even reached out to the family since the incident occurred.

As at press time, Burna Boy’s Manager who doubles as his mum, Mrs Bose Ogulu is yet to confirm or repute the report.

Also, Media Consultant to Cubana Group, Chioma Nwachukwu, hasn’t responded to the matter.

Meanwhile, the Spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, Mr Benjamin Hundeyin, noted that the focus of the investigation was the policemen because it’s an internal disciplinary matter.

He said,

”It was the policemen attached to him that shot and it is an internal disciplinary matter.

They will explain why they had to shoot into the air and the outcome of their explanation during the investigation will determine what steps to take next.

“So, it is an internal thing with the police officers that were with him. Except you have news that Burna Boy was the one shooting; then we will have to investigate how he got the gun and all that.

But what we have for now is that the policemen were the ones that shot.

“We are treating the policemen internally for disciplinary matters. We didn’t get a report of somebody being hit by a bullet.

If somebody was hit by a bullet, anybody treating the person is supposed to have reported but we didn’t get any report of such. The investigation is ongoing,” he added.

However, the Grammy Winner is not a strange face to scandal and controversies.

Burna Boy’s scandalous history dates back to 2017 when the Lagos State Police declared him wanted after he was fingered in a robbery attack on his fellow musician, Mr. 2kay.

The gang leader of the robbers, Tunmise Omotore had said they acted on the instruction of then Burna’s road Manager, Joel Kantiock. It happened at Eko Hotel and Suites in October 2017. 

Again in May 2020, Burna Boy’s neighbors alerted the police to arrest him and his father over a fierce banter.

His neighbors who feared the amount of noise coming from his house following the banter told the police to arrest them.

In November 2021, a US based show promoter, CEO of Gold Moola Entertainment, Emmanuel Chinyere Uzoh accused Burna Boy and his manager of receiving payment for a show and refusing to perform.

Other numerous fights of Burna Boy include – In March 2021, Burna Boy fought Nigerian footballer Obafemi Martins aka Obagoal and CDQ at Bayrock Club in Lagos.

In December 2020, Burna Boy and Davido clashed in a club where they had a free-for-all fight in Ghana.

In September 2019 during the xenophobic attack on Nigerians in South Africa, Burna Boy had a feud with South African musician, AKA on his stance on the attack.

Burna Boy in a series of tweets took direct swipe at AKA, threatening to deal with him whenever their paths crossed.

He said, @akaworldwide I knew you was retarded but I didn’t know it had gotten this bad. Next time I see you, you better have a big security bro, On Gambos Grave ur gunna need it.” (sic)

Again in October 2012, Burna Boy had shaded Tonto Dike when she released her two songs ‘High and Itz Ova’ with Dbanj.

Burna Boy while joining other Nigerians to ridicule Tonto Dike’s songs said, ”God punish all of you who disrespect the name of music by releasing d noisy wackness being released these days. Death is d least yu deserve.”

Same October while performing on stage, Burna Boy stripped and fell at the Hip Hop World Awards.

Few hours later, Tonto Dike took her pound of flesh by dissing him. She tweeted, “Gud Mrng Loverz* May all ur problemz b blinded wit dark shadez n Fall off their STAGE LiKE BURNABOY IJN ** #POKO#”…. Hehehehhehe itz Karma baby* D bitch beautiful…….” (sic).
