Chairman of Access Holdings Plc, Bababode Osunkoya has died, a letter filed with the Nigerian Exchange Limited on the night of November 23, 2023 revealed.
Mr. Osunkoya, a respected figure in the financial sector, died after a brief illness on Tuesday, November 21, 2023.
According to the statement signed by the company secretary, Sunday Ekwochi said, “On behalf of the Board of Directors of Access Holdings Plc and with deep sense of loss, we write to notify the Nigerian Exchange Limited and the investing public of the death of Mr Bababode Osunkoya on November 21, 2023, after a brief illness.”
Following the death of its Chairman, Ekwochi noted that the Board of Directors now stands at nine members, consisting of six non-executive directors (including two independents) and three executive directors, one of whom is the group chief executive officer.
A Little Background of Mr Osunkoya
Mr Osunkoya was an alumnus of the of University of Lagos where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting in 1984.
He started his early career days at Premier Hotel Limited, Ibadan in 1985, before joining Z.O. Ososanya & Co (Chartered Accountants) in the same year, where he served until 1988 and advanced to the role of assistant audit manager.
From 1989 to 1993, he held a managerial role at Abacus Merchant Bank Limited before assuming the position of general manager at Konsuma Credit Limited in 1993.
Until his demise, Mr. Osunkoya held the role of managing partner at Abax-OOSA Professionals (Chartered Accountants) and served as a board member for Coronation Life Assurance Limited, Haggai Mortgage Bank Limited, and Richardson Oil and Gas Limited.
Additionally, he actively participated in the executive committee of the Association of Reporting Accountants and Auditors in the Capital Market.
He was a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.
In March 2022, Access Holdings appointed him to chair its board of directors following a restructuring in the company.

Access Holdings Plc expressed gratitude to their late Chairman for his contributions, noting that the company will have to navigate the leadership transition as it bids farewell to Mr. Osunkoya
”We will notify the investing public subsequently of the board’s choice of his successor,” they said.
