Aminu Adamu Muhammed, the varsity student arrested on the order of Nigeria’s first lady, Aisha Buhari has been sent to Abuja Correctional centre.
Aminu was arraigned on Wednesday before the High Court sitting in Abuja, and sentenced to prison.
Aminu was arrested by security operatives few days ago for allegedly criticizing President Buhari’s wife, Aisha Buhari on twitter in June.
Aminu posted a picture of Aisha Buhari with a tweet, “Su mama anchi kudin talakawa ankoshi🤧”, meaning “feeding fat on poor people’s money”.
The Northern Nigerian Human Right Advocates on Monday frowned at the arrest of the student through a press statement.
The statement reads, “The Northern Nigerian Human Right Advocates condemn in strong terms, the arrest and incarceration of Aminu Adamu Muhammed, the 23 years old student of Federal University Dutse over the frivolous allegation of defaming the character of the Nigeria’s first lady, Aisha Buhari”.
Nigerians also took to twitter to condemn the arrest and the sentencing.
Rinu tweeted, “APC has turned Nigeria into a dictatorship where citizens are arrested for criticizing the First Lady.
Aminu Mohammed must be released immediately!
If Aisha Buhari was defamed, she should go to court, not resort to using state institutions to perpetuate brutality!” #FreeAminu
“Court has ordered Aminu be sentenced to a correctional Center. Imagine what Aisha Buhari is doing to a citizen of a nation she’s supposed to be the mother. Prison for what exactly? Saying his mind? If Patience Jonathan had done this to a northerner, there’ll be a National unrest!”, @Victor_Israel tweeted.
