In a heart-warming development, first set of Nigerian students, who were stranded in Sudan, were airlifted from the Aswan Airport in Egypt and have now arrived safely at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
Recall that since mid-April, Sudan has been engulfed with unrest and chaos as a result of clash between two military factions.
Consequently, various governments of the world have dispatched their officials to Sudan to evacuate their citizens and return them home.
The collaborative efforts of the Nigerian government, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), and Air Peace enabled the long-awaited return of Nigerians.

Despite facing initial challenges, the evacuation process was carefully planned and executed to ensure the safety of the Nigerians who were stranded.
As the Air Peace flight who carried 270 Nigerian students touched down at the airport, a sense of relief and excitement filled the air.
The NAF C-130H jet, which was also part of the evacuation mission, conveyed about 80 persons, including Nigerian diplomats, who had been stationed in Sudan.
The Chairperson of NIDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who has been at the forefront of efforts to evacuate Nigerians stranded in different parts of the world, took to her Twitter page to announce the successful arrival of the evacuees.
She shared heartwarming photos of the returning Nigerians and captioned it “Welcome home”.
While the first batch of evacuees have been successfully airlifted, the Nigerian government has assured its citizens that it is committed to ensuring the safe return of all Nigerians stranded in Sudan.
Plans are already in motion to airlift the remaining Nigerians back home, and the government has reiterated its unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of all Nigerians, both at home and abroad.
