Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has announced plans to establish an innovation park and a modular refinery in the state.
The state’s Information Commissioner, Okey Kanu, made the exciting announcement during a news conference at the Government House in Umuahia.
The proposed innovation park will serve as a hub for various industries, including manufacturing, logistics, power, and the eagerly anticipated modular refinery.
Also, the park will house an incubation center to foster innovation and encourage entrepreneurship among the youth.
According to Commissioner Kanu, the initiative has already garnered significant interest from potential investors who are eager to partner with the government in bringing the project to fruition.
The establishment of the innovation park and modular refinery is expected to create numerous job opportunities for the state’s youth, thus addressing the issue of youth unemployment, which has been a priority for Governor Otti’s administration.
The commissioner emphasized that Governor Otti’s government is committed to ensuring the welfare of pensioners in the state.
Efforts are underway to resolve any payment hitches, and the administration aims to achieve the full payment of pensions, providing pensioners with 100 percent of their pension entitlements.

Apologizing for the recent shortfall in June’s payment, Commissioner Kanu attributed the issue to the historical method adopted by the previous administration.
He assured pensioners that the method is being reviewed, and outstanding payments will be disbursed before the end of the year.
Addressing the state’s energy needs, the Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Joel Ogbonna, provided updates on infrastructure projects related to the oil and gas sector.
Efforts are ongoing to rehabilitate the road leading to the Osisioma depot, ensuring smooth and efficient access for oil marketers.
Also, the Abia government is working to repair the vandalized Port Harcourt-Osisioma pipeline, which was damaged by suspected vandals.
