Former Governor of Edo State and Chairman of the ‘Class of 1999 Governors,’ Lucky Igbinedion, gathered with a group of former governors in Abuja on Wednesday to meet with President Bola Tinubu and express their support for his administration.
During the meeting, Igbinedion appealed to Nigerians to exercise patience and trust in President Tinubu’s leadership, assuring them that palliatives were being planned to mitigate the impact of discontinuing the fuel subsidy.
President Tinubu recently submitted a letter to the House of Representatives, suggesting the allocation of a substantial N500 billion palliative package.
The proposed funds aim to alleviate the hardships experienced by Nigerians following the discontinuation of the fuel subsidy.
Speaking to State House Correspondents after the meeting, Igbinedion emphasized the need for unity and collaboration to ensure the success of the new administration.

He highlighted President Tinubu’s pivotal role as one of the founding members of the Fourth Republic and commended him for appointing one of their own as the Secretary to the Government.
“We came to congratulate Mr. President and also to thank him for making one of us the Secretary to Government,” said Igbinedion.
“We came to assure him that he has our full support and prayers for the bold steps he has started to take, for his initiatives, and also to let him know that this is beyond party politics.
“All hands must be on deck to give Mr. President the needed support and encouragement to foster a better nation,” he added.
Acknowledging the concerns of the Nigerian people regarding the discontinuation of the fuel subsidy, Igbinedion sought to alleviate their worries by affirming that the government was working on palliatives.
He expressed confidence that these measures would soon be implemented, bringing relief and smiles to the faces of Nigerians across the country.
