Nigeria Afrobeats singers, Burna Boy and Tems have been nominated in two categories each for the 65th Grammy Awards which will air live on February 5 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
Burna Boy is nominated for Best Global Performance for “Last Last” and Best Global Album for “Love, Damini” at 2023 Grammy Awards.
The artists nominated alongside him in the best global performance include: Arooj Aftab & Anoushka Shankar, Matt B & Eddy Kenzo, Rocky Dawuni, Wouter Kellerman & Zakes Bantwini & Nomcebo Zikode.
The artists nominated alongside him in the best global album include: Berklee Indian Ensemble, Angelique Kidjo & Ibrahim Maalouf, Anoushka Shankar & Metropole Orkest & Jules Buckley, Masa Takumi.
Burna Boy officially becomes the first Nigerian artist with the most Grammy awards nominations.
Tems got nominated for “Best Melodic Rap Performance” category and “Best Rap Song” category (as a featured artist) on Future’s song “Wait for U”.
Elsewhere, Beyonce got nine nominations, the highest for the 2023 Grammy Awards.
She is now tied with her husband, Jay Z with 88 nominations, the highest in the history of the award.
English singer, Adele and Brandi Carlile had seven nominations; and Harry Styles, Mary J. Blige, Future, DJ Khaled with six each.
