Tajudeen Abbas, a longstanding member of the House of Representatives representing the Zaria Federal Constituency, has emerged Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Abbas squashed 353 votes to emerge new speaker of the House of Representatives.
Abbas, who has been a member of the House since 2011, was the favored candidate for the speakership position by the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 10th assembly.
The election for the Speaker of the House was conducted using the open ballot system, where lawmakers openly stood up and named their preferred candidate.
Three candidates contested for the speakership position: Idris Wase, the outgoing Deputy Speaker from Wase Federal Constituency; Aminu Sani-Jaji; and Tajudeen Abbas.

In the voting process, Idris Wase and Aminu Sani-Jaji both received three votes each, while Tajudeen Abbas emerged winner with an overwhelming 353 votes in his favor.
Prior to the commencement of the election, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, the outgoing majority leader of the House, nominated Tajudeen Abbas as a candidate for the speakership, with Nnolim Nnaji seconding the nomination.
Similarly, Tijjani Kayode Ismail from Offa/Oyun/Ifelodun Federal Constituency in Kwara State nominated Idris Wase, and Ali Muhammed from Nasarawa State seconded the nomination.
The voting process was supervised by the Clerk of the House, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria.
Out of the total 360 federal representatives-elect, 359 cast their votes, as one member, Isma’ila Maihanchi from Jalingo, Yerro, and Zing Federal Constituency in Taraba State, sadly passed away before the election took place
