Former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan made a significant statement earlier today, stressing the importance of national unity and progress following the Supreme Court’s validation of President Bola Tinubu’s electoral victory.
Jonathan’s call for unity and collaboration came during a press briefing at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa after his meeting with President Tinubu.
The meeting took place just hours after the Supreme Court’s verdict, allowing Jonathan to extend his congratulations to President Tinubu on the recent judgment.
It also provided an opportunity for the former president to discuss crucial issues that he believes will propel Nigeria forward.

During the press briefing, he stated, “Elections are over, we must move forward. Yes, we have challenges economically now, but we still have all it takes to lead.
“These are some of the issues I will continue to have a conversation with Mr. President, including briefing him on all my foreign programs because they are not personal issues.”
Jonathan also encouraged all political leaders, including former presidents, to set aside bitterness and work together harmoniously for the greater good of Nigeria.
Furthermore, Jonathan explained that his visit aimed to inform President Tinubu about his recent foreign engagements and sundry issues affecting the country.
He emphasized that it is a longstanding tradition for former presidents to brief the incumbent president on their international commitments, especially those that concern the continent, region, or the international community.
“Traditionally, if a former president goes outside the country for this continental, regional, or international work, they come home and tell the President.
“That is the tradition. Most of the time, when you see me here, it is because of this thing we must do to move Nigeria, ECOWAS, and the African continent forward,” he added.
