Lionel Messi has made the decision to embark on a new chapter in his illustrious career by joining United States club, Inter Miami, ending the speculation of rejoining his boyhood club, FC Barcelona.
Messi’s decision to join Inter Miami comes amidst weeks of intense speculation surrounding a potential move to the Saudi Arabian football club, Al-Hilal.
Fans had widely anticipated Messi’s move to Al-Hilal, with reports suggesting that the Saudi club had made a staggering offer of over 1 billion euros to secure the services of the Argentine superstar.
However, defying expectations, Messi has opted for a move to the Major League Soccer side, Inter Miami.
On Monday, June 5, the player’s father and representative, Jorge Messi, delivered the news to Club President Joan Laporta.
Despite being presented with a proposal from Barça, Messi expressed his desire to don the Inter Miami jersey.
Last week, Lionel Messi made headlines by announcing his departure from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) where he played for two seasons and won two Ligue 1 titles.
After completing his move to Inter Miami, the world cup winner took the opportunity to reflect on his tenure at PSG and share his thoughts on the experience.
“I’m ending career in Paris with mixed sensations. The truth is that the first year was very difficult, as I said on occasion, for different reasons.
“The second year, the first six months, I felt very, very good, very comfortable in the club, in the city, with my family.
“In the middle was the World Cup and I think the World Cup marked a little to all the teams in general with such an important competition in the middle of the season for the first time.
“I think it conditioned the season a lot. I was hoping to end in a different way, but well, it was two years, which, in general, were difficult for me, but they are behind me.”
