Lionel Messi has become the most decorated player in football history after guiding Major League Soccer (MLS) side, Inter Miami to their first-ever victory in the League Cup against Nashville SC following a penalty shoot out.
The win marks a special moment for Lionel Messi who now has 44 trophies, the most by a football player.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw, and the Argentine displayed his football ability by scoring the only goal in regular time.
The match started brightly for both sides, but it was Messi who drew first blood by scoring the opening goal with a powerful shot that soared into the top corner of the net.
The second half saw Fafa Picault of Nashville SC leveling the score with a header that bounced off Miami’s goalkeeper, Drake Callender’s hands, and found its way into the net.

The match concluded with a penalty shootout, as neither team managed to score during the regular time.
Drake Callender from Inter Miami made a noteworthy statement by successfully converting his own penalty kick.
Elliot Panicco of Nashville’s team had his penalty kick saved, resulting in Inter Miami securing its inaugural Leagues Cup title.
Adding to the emotions of the victory, Messi extended an invitation to DeAndre Yedlin, the team’s original captain, to join him in lifting the trophy.
Messi secured both the best player award and the tournament’s top scorer award as well.
Prior to Messi’s arrival in the Summer transfer window, Inter Miami was labeled the weakest team in MLS, occupying the last position on the league table.
The team has gone on to win seven consecutive matches, and the 36-year-old has scored 10 goals during this period.
