Morocco’s national football team, the Atlas Lions, became the first team, other than the host nation, to touch down in Cote d’Ivoire for the 2023 CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The squad, which had previously reached the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup, arrived in Abidjan on Sunday to a warm and enthusiastic reception at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Airport.
The official Twitter handle of the Moroccan national team shared the exciting news, stating, “Our #AtlasLions arrived safely to San Pedro,” indicating the team’s safe arrival at the destination.
The arrival took place at 2:00 PM local time, with the Atlas Lions receiving a vibrant cultural welcome orchestrated by the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the AFCON at Terminal 2.
The arrival of the team went smoothly thanks to strong security measures, making sure Coach Walid Regragui’s squad had no problems getting in.
