Nollywood comic actor, Mr. Ibu, has undergone multiple surgeries, resulting in the loss of one of his legs.
The news was revealed on his official Instagram account, where his family shared the details of his medical ordeal.
It read, “Good afternoon, Nigerians. We want to appreciate everyone who has come through for our dad; saying we are grateful is an understatement, and only the good Lord can thank you all enough for every help you’ve rendered.
“As of 1 pm, noon today, Daddy has gone through 7 successful surgeries but to keep him alive and increase his chances of recovery one of his legs had to be amputated.
“This development has been hard on us all but we’ve had to accept it as Daddy’s new reality to keep him alive.”
Call for Help
Facts Reporter Nigeria reported on October 21 that the family had reached out to the public for help.
They recognized the actor’s delicate condition and the need for assistance to facilitate his recovery.
In a plea for help made last month, Mr. Ibu shared a video on his verified Instagram account, which quickly went viral.
In the video, he explained that he had been hospitalized for several weeks, and doctors had informed him that amputation might be necessary if their current course of action did not yield positive results.
His appeal garnered widespread sympathy and prayers from his fans and well-wishers.
The Abubakar Bukola Saraki Foundation stepped in and announced that it had covered his medical expenses as of October 18, 2023.
In a statement shared on its Facebook page, the foundation expressed its honor in providing support to the renowned comic icon, who has entertained audiences for over four decades.
“The Abubakar Bukola Saraki Foundation is honored to have extended support to Mr. John Okafor, also known as Mr. Ibu, a renowned comedic icon who has graced our screens and brought joy and laughter to countless homes over the past four decades,” the foundation declared.
