Netizens of Igbo extraction have berated Obi of Onitsha for leaving his traditional seat to meet with Atiku and his entourage in a private lodge in Awka.
The Obi of Onitsha, His Majesty Igwe, Nnaemeka Alfred Ugochukwu Achebe CFR had on Thursday 15th, in company of other traditional rulers in Anambra State met with the delegation of the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
Factsreporterng learnt the meeting convened by the Governor of the State, Dr. Charles Soludo was allegedly ambushed by Atiku and his delegation.
The delegation had Governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa who doubles as Atiku’s running mate, Governor Aminu Tambuwal, among others.
Rising from the outcome of the meeting, Ndigbo netizens frowned at the Igbo traditional ruler for leaving his palace to honour Atiku, noting that reverse should have been the case.
While arguing if such act can be meted to traditional rulers in the North, West or South, the Ndigbo netizens said the ‘abominable act ‘ was disrespectful not just to the Igbo traditional seat and but to everything it represents.
They stressed that Igbos will continue to be seen as ‘political slaves’ if their leaders do not change from deportment of self-defeat and greed, noting that Igbo traditional rulers deserve to be accorded same level of respect given their Northern counterparts.
In a series of tweet, the netizens said, “Igbo Traditions lost it when kingship switched to selection/election. Businessmen became King instead of groomed Crown Prince. Obi of Onitsha and the lots weren’t train on dos and don’t from birth. I don’t regard appointed Obas or Obis.”
Another said, ”Obi of Onitsha has brought disrespect to ndigbo, he has disappointed the gods of the land cos of money. Even in the colonial era, Igbo Kings were the most respected.This must never repeats itself.”
