The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has expressed deep concern over the safety and welfare of Nigerian citizens currently trapped in Sudan, where a fierce conflict has erupted between two major military groups.
In a strongly worded statement released on Saturday, the NLC criticized the Federal Government for its slow response in evacuating the stranded citizens, warning that no Nigerian should be left to die in a foreign land due to the negligence of the Nigerian government.
The President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero, reiterated the urgency of the situation, saying that it was unacceptable for the government to offer excuses for the delay in evacuating the citizens.

Ajaero expressed dismay at the government’s reluctance to use the airport as a means of evacuation, citing safety concerns.
However, he insisted that alternatives must be explored to ensure the safe passage of Nigerian citizens to neighbouring countries.
Joe Ajaero reflects the growing anxiety among Nigerians over the safety and welfare of their compatriots in Sudan.
“Nigerians must not be allowed to die in Sudan because of negligence. No effort should be spared in ensuring their safety and ultimately evacuation to Nigeria if the War persists and escalates into a full blown war,” he said.
The ongoing conflict has led to a humanitarian crisis, with many civilians caught in the crossfire.
The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, had earlier acknowledged the challenges encountered in moving Nigerians out of Sudan.
However, the NLC is calling for a more proactive response from the government, arguing that the lives of Nigerian citizens must be given top priority.
The statement released by the NLC also called for measures to be put in place to support Nigerian citizens who are forced to return home due to the conflict in Sudan.
