Julien Alfred, a talented young athlete from the small island nation of Saint Lucia, has created history by winning the 100 Metres Women’s race at the 2024 Olympics.
Julien, defeated reigning World Champion Sha’Carri Richardson of the United States to grab a gold medal for her country with a national record time of 10.72 seconds.
Julien’s victory gives the small Island, Saint Lucia which is known for its cocoa and banana production their first ever gold medal at the Olympics.
The country is a small island nation located in the Eastern Caribbean Sea, part of the Lesser Antilles and has a population of 179,000 people.

Despite being threatened by the rain-soaked stadium, the new queen of sprint defied all odds to set not only a personal best but national record to announce herself in the world of athletics.
She had defeated Sha’Carri early in the semi-final and in the finals while Sha’Carri grabbed silver with a record time of 10.87 seconds, while fellow Americans Melissa Jefferson grabbed bronze with a record time of 10.92 seconds.
