Barring last minute changes, the People’s Democratic Party Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has settled for Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as his running mate.
Recall information had filtered days back that Governor Wike of Rivers State emerged the preferred by the committee set up to choose Atiku’s vice.
The decision of Abubakar, GCON (Waziri Adamawa) to pick Okowa over Wike according to close sources was reached on Wednesday night when the party hierarchy and Atiku met.
The source disclose that Governor Okowa will today, 16th June be presented by Atiku in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
Further, the source disclosed that VC nominee will be screened by a committee which has already been set up.
Recall the party had set up a committee to recommend some candidates to Atiku.
However, FactsreporterNG learnt that despite reports on Tuesday that the committee recommended Wike as the suitable candidate for Atiku, the party leaders refuted the recommendation.
The party leaders according to reports from Premium Times raised concerns over Governor Wike’s temperament and personality.
A number of party chieftains raised concerns about the Governor‘s temperament, his perceived dictatorial tendencies and his propensity for picking fights even with key allies.
Some party leaders also argued that Mr. Okowa possessed a better intellectual bent and would bring better value to governance at the federal level if the ticket is eventually elected by Nigerians.
As at the time of filing this report, governor Okowa had arrived the venue of the screening awaiting presentation by Waziri Adamawa.
