Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cautioned against an alleged planned protest by some governorship aspirants in the state ahead the upcoming governorship primaries of the party and the 2023 general elections.
It was learnt that after an unsuccessful attempt to disrupt the just concluded party ward congress for the election of ad-hoc delegates in the state some governorship aspirants of the party have perfected plans to stage public protests tomorrow, 2nd May 2022 at PDP Headquarter in Abuja to discredit the peaceful conduct of last Saturday’s exercise.
Sources in the camps of Senator Bassey Albert, Mr Akan Okon and Obong Akanimo Udofia fingered the three aspirants as plotting the alleged fake protest by hiring and mobilising thugs to go to Abuja protest tomorrow to cause security breaches.
Our sources further revealed that the fake protest is orchestrated to whip sentiments and mislead the party at the national by painting a picture of crisis in the party in the state whereas, the ward congress which took place in all the 329 Wards in the state was conducted in a transparent and peaceful atmosphere and party members turned out enmasse and voted for the delegates freely and devoid of intimidation.
“As we are talk hundreds of placards with different inscriptions have been prepared to be used during the public demonstration in Abuja. The protesters who are majorly from outside Akwa Ibom State and some thugs from Akwa Ibom have been mobilised. Some of this boys are already in Abuja while others will leave this night”
“OBA, particularly is the one sponsoring the protest while others are merely supporting him to execute his evil plans” the Source revealed.
Recall that the PDP ward congress in Akwa Ibom State was conducted across all the wards in the state under a very peaceful atmosphere and in accordance with the Party’s guidelines and was well supervised by the party officials and monitored by the Independence National Electoral Commission (INEC) but some aspirants in the state who had planned to hijack and manipulate the process were dissatisfied with the transparent manner the congress was conducted by the officials and planned to unleash different forms of attacks since Saturday to discredit it.
Meanwhile, some chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state who do not want their names published had warned against any act to cause break down of law and order in the state and urged all aspirants or members of the party not satisfied with the outcome of the ward congress to follow a lawful and democratic means to seek redress and assured everyone that the party will ensure a free and fair process during the forthcoming governorship primaries of the party.
” There’s no need for a protest. The umbrella is big enough to accommodate everybody. Whoever is not favoured today, another opportunity will manifest itself some other time for them to try again.
” The party will not tolerate any form of violence or anything that is capable of destroying the peace in the state. Election will come and go but Akwa Ibom will remain. Nobody is bigger than the party and the state, so every aspirant for the 2023 elections must be guided and control their supporters”.
The party stalwart called on security agents to ensure that no life is lost in the planned violent protest.
