President Bola Tinubu has pledged to undertake a comprehensive review of the remuneration templates of judicial officers in Nigeria.
The commitment was voiced during a meeting with the Nigerian Bar Association’s leadership, led by Yakubu Maikyau (SAN), on Friday.
President Tinubu cited the imperative battle against corruption as the driving force behind the need to reassess the salaries and allowances allocated to judicial officers.
The President’s resolve to address the issue was underscored by his past achievements in reforming justice administration during his tenure in Lagos State.
Drawing from his experience, he emphasized the significance of a thorough examination of remuneration structures in order to effectively combat corruption within the judiciary.

“We must deal with the review of remuneration if we truly want to fight corruption in the judiciary. We will look at the cost as well as the consequences,” remarked President Tinubu in response to the NBA president’s request.
Also, President Tinubu acknowledged the pressing need to fill vacancies at the Supreme Court.
He recognized these vacancies as obligations that must be fulfilled based on recommendations from the National Judicial Council.
Reassuring stakeholders, he stated, “Majority of them are on holiday now and when they return, we will take a look at what they have and we will fill the vacancies. It’s a fulfilment of an obligation.”
President Bola Tinubu expressed appreciation for the contributions of lawyers serving in crucial positions within his administration.
Among those highlighted by the President are Femi Gbajabiamila, who serves as his Chief of Staff, Victor Adeleke, State Chief of Protocol, and Damilotun Aderemi, the President’s Principal Private Secretary.
In response, Yakubu Maikyau (SAN), the leader of the Nigerian Bar Association, commended President Tinubu for appointing legal professionals to his cabinet.
Notable among these appointments is Lateef Fagbemi, who holds the esteemed position of Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice.
