Senegalese player Sadio Mane has won the Socrates Award for his humanitarian services in his country.
The Bayern Munich star received the award at the Ballon D’or award ceremony held in Paris on Monday night.
The award is named after the Brazilian footballer Socrates for his selfless service done to humanity. He co-founded the Corinthians Democracy movement to oppose the military government in Brazil in the 1980s.
Mane showed that he deserved the award after his tremendous social works in his home town, Bambali, Senegal.
The 30 years old has spent over £700,000 to build a school, construct a hospital, and pay every family in Bambali £70.
Mane couldn’t hide his joy after receiving the award.
“I am really happy to do what I can for my people and to make things better”, he said.
Mane left to Bayern Munich from Liverpool in the last summer transfer after helping them win the Carabao cup and the FA Cup.
