A court in Netherlands has issued an order to Jonathan M., prohibiting him from continuing to provide his sperm to potential parents.
The Dutch man has been accused of causing a fertility scandal by allegedly fathering more than 550 children through his sperm donations.
The issue has caused a great deal of surprise and disbelief throughout the Netherlands.
The case was brought to court by a foundation dedicated to protecting the rights of donor children and the mother of one of the children allegedly fathered by Jonathan M.

The court found that the man had helped produce between 550 and 600 children since he began donating sperm in 2007, which is far in excess of the limit set by Dutch clinical guidelines.
According to these guidelines, a donor should not father more than 25 children in 12 families.
As a result of the court’s ruling, Jonathan M. has been banned from donating his sperm to new prospective parents.
“He is also prohibited from contacting any prospective parents or advertising his services to them.
“Should he continue to donate his sperm, he will face a hefty fine of 100,000 euros ($110,000) for every violation of the court’s order, as well as other additional fines,” Judge Thera Hesselink ruled.
Eva, mother of one of the children involved in the case, expressed her appreciation to the court for stopping a man’s “mass donations,” which were reported to have extended to other nations.
