In a stunning turn of events, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has suspended Adamawa State’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Barr. Hudu Yunusa-Ari, from his post.
This decision comes after he made an illegal declaration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Candidate, Aisha Dahiru Binani, as Governor-elect in supplementary election.
The National Commissioner for Information and Voter Education of INEC, Barr. Festus Okoye, on his press release dated April 16, 2023, invalidated the declaration of Aisha ‘Binani’ Dahiru as the winner of the Adamawa State governorship election.

In a letter dated April 17, 2023, and signed by its Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, INEC has directed Barr. Hudu Yunusa-Ari to distance himself from the office of the commission in Yola, Adamawa state.
The letter also directed the Administrative Secretary in the state to take charge of its affairs.
“I hereby convey the Commission’s decision that you (Barr. Hudu Yunusa Ari), Resident Electoral Commissioner, Adamawa State should stay away from the Commission’s office in Adamawa State immediately until further notice.
“The Administrative Secretary has been directed to take full charge of INEC, Adamawa State with immediate effect.
“Please, accept the assurances of the commission’s warm regards,” she wrote.
