President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken a decisive action by indefinitely suspending Mr. AbdulRasheed Bawa, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The president’s decision, as stated in a signed press release issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, stems from weighty allegations of abuse of office leveled against Bawa.
The suspension aims to facilitate a thorough investigation into the chairman’s conduct while in office, ensuring transparency and accountability within the commission.
As a result of his suspension, Mr. Bawa has been instructed to hand over the reins of the EFCC to the Director of Operations in the Commission, who will assume the responsibilities of the chairman during the investigation.

This temporary arrangement ensures that the operations of the EFCC continue uninterrupted, maintaining the agency’s crucial role in combating economic and financial crimes.
Bawa’s suspension is coming just five days after Godwin Emefiele was suspended by President Tinubu.
The decision to suspend Emefiele was made in order to conduct a comprehensive investigation and implement reforms within the financial sector, serving as the primary justifications for his removal from office.
