Nigerian athlete Tobi Amusan, the 2022 world champion and world record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, has failed to qualify for the final of the event at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Amusan finished third in her heat with a time of 12.55 seconds, which wasn’t enough to secure an automatic spot in the final.
This outcome comes as a surprise, given Amusan’s impressive record in the event.
She set the world record in the 100m hurdles at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, with a time of 12.12 seconds.
However, she struggled to replicate that form in Paris, finishing third in her heat behind American athlete Grace Stark, and Bahamas Devynne Charlton who finished second.

Amusan’s failure to qualify for the final marks a disappointing end to her Olympic campaign in Paris.
Despite being one of the favorites to win gold, she will now have to wait until the next Olympics to attempt to add to her medal collection.
The 100m hurdles final will take place on Saturday, with Harrison and Ali among the top contenders for gold.
Amusan’s absence from the final will be deeply felt, but she will have the opportunity to regroup and come back stronger in the future.
