A fire incident occurred on Wednesday at a section of the Dangote Refinery located in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.
The incident was captured in a trending video on X (formerly Twitter), showing a cloud of thick smoke billowing into the sky from the facility.
The cause of the fire remains unknown as of the time of this report.
However, in a brief statement, Anthony Chiejina, the Group Chief Branding & Communications Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, confirmed the incident.
“We have swiftly contained a minor fire incident at our effluent treatment plant (ETP) today, Wednesday 26th of June,” Chiejina said.
He assured the public that the fire was minor and had been promptly contained.

The fire broke out in the early hours of Wednesday, but quick action by the refinery’s emergency response team prevented it from escalating.
“There is no cause for alarm as the refinery is operating and there is no recorded injury or body harm to all our staff on duty,” Chiejina added, stressing that the refinery’s operations continue uninterrupted.
The Dangote Refinery is a significant project by Dangote Industries Limited and is one of the largest refineries in the world.
The refinery has been designed to refine 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
