A tragic accident has resulted in the death of two commercial bus drivers and caused widespread gridlock along the Ogudu area of Lagos State.
The incident involved two buses commonly referred to as ‘danfo’ and a government-owned BRT bus on Wednesday.
Eyewitnesses recount that the accident occurred due to over-speeding by the buses.
The impact was so severe that one of the commercial bus drivers died on the spot, while passengers from all three buses sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The BRT bus, in particular, went up in flames, which further compounded the already dire situation.

Passersby and other vehicles scrambled to escape from the inferno.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) promptly sent its officials to the scene to manage the traffic, which was already at a standstill due to the accident.
However, the heavy rainfall that accompanied the accident made it more difficult for LASTMA officials to ease the gridlock and control the situation.
Also, other concerned citizens worked frantically to extricate the injured passengers from the wreckage and provide them with medical attention.
The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
