Fast rising Italian volleyball star, Julia Ituma has passed away in a tragic incident in Istanbul, Turkey.
The 18-year-old athlete, who had been touted as one of Italy’s rising stars, fell from the sixth floor of her hotel room in the early hours of the morning.
The body of the Italian athlete cum Nigerian origin was found at about 5:30am local time in front of the hotel, a report from Turkish Daily Sabah says.
It is believed that the incident occurred after her team Novara suffered a defeat against Turkish side Eczacibas in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

The news of Julia’s untimely death has sent shockwaves across the sporting world, with tributes pouring in from teammates, coaches, and fans alike.
Her club, Novara, released a statement expressing their deep sorrow and condolences to Julia’s family and loved ones.
The Italian Volleyball Federation also released a statement expressing their shock and sadness at the loss of such a promising talent.
Her club statement said ”With deep sorrow and emotion the untimely death of Italian volleyball player Julia Ituma.”
“The tragedy occurred in the early hours of the day and the specifics of the incident are being investigated by the Turkish police.”
Also, a statement from the President, Italian Volleyball Federation Giuseppe Manfredi said, ” We are all dismayed by this tragedy which affects not only the volleyball world but all of Italian sport.
“My first thought goes to Julia’s family, to whom I send my deepest condolences and I guarantee that the Italian Volleyball Federation will provide maximum support, ” Giuseppe said.
While the exact details of the incident remain unclear, what is certain is that the world has lost a young athlete with immense potential.
Despite her young age, Julia had already achieved a great deal in her sporting career.
She had represented Italy at the youth level and had been making waves in the professional ranks, earning a reputation as a talented and hardworking player.
