The Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal, on Wednesday, has announced a significant development by adjourning the hearing of Peter Obi’s petition, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, to next Wednesday, May 17, 2023.
The petition challenges the legitimacy of the ‘president-elect,’ Bola Tinubu, of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The adjournment was prompted by a mutual request from the parties involved, who sought additional time to serve processes and agree on controversial documents.

Their collective decision was aimed at expediting the overall process and avoiding unnecessary delays and negotiations.
The Justices granted the adjournment and stressed that all parties should strictly follow the agreement for adjournment so the case will be heard in time.
The decision of the tribunal follows the dismissal of the petition filed by the Action People’s Party challenging the declaration of Bola Tinubu as the winner of the presidential election held on February 25.
During the proceedings, the party’s counsel, Obed Agu, submitted an application to withdraw the petition, leading to its dismissal by the presiding judge of the Presidential Election Petition Court, Justice Tsammani.
On Monday, the tribunal had struck out Action Alliance’s petition lodged against Tinubu’s victory.
The Action Alliance withdrew its petition at the Presidential Election Petition Court sitting in Abuja, resulting in the dismissal of the case.
While no specific reason was provided for the withdrawal, the decision suggests a diminishing number of challenges to Tinubu’s claim as the president-elect.
