UEFA has unveiled the nominees for the 2022/23 Men’s Player of the Year award in men’s football.
Lionel Messi, Kelvin De Bruyne, and Erling Haaland are vying for the accolade after being acknowledged for their exceptional displays in the 2022/23 season.
The award is set to be presented at athe 2023/24 UEFA Champions League group stage draw ceremony on August 31, 2023.
The shortlist was drawn up by the UEFA technical study group, a panel of experts who analyzed players’ contributions throughout the season.
The panel of judges was made up of coaches of clubs that participated in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Europa Conference League.

The coaches were also joined by their counterparts from the men’s national teams of UEFA’s member associations.
Furthermore, a consortium of journalists chosen by the European Sports Media (ESM) played a role in the process.
UEFA Men’s Coach of the Year
UEFA also revealed the nominees for UEFA Men’s Coach of the Year award.
Pep Guardiola of Manchester City, Simone Inzaghi of Inter Milan, and Luciano Spalletti of Napoli emerged as frontrunners for the award.
Guardiola led Manchester City to victory in the English Premier League, English FA Cup, and the first UEFA Champions League in the club’s history.
Inzaghi won Inter Milan the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana and reached the Champions League final last season.
Under Spalletti’s guidance, Napoli secured their first league title in 33 years, marking a moment joy for the club and its fans.
Next week, the nominees for the UEFA Women’s Player and Coach of the Year awards will be revealed.
