…solicit peace and collaboration to advance Governor Umo Eno’s A.R.I.S.E. Agenda
Worried over growing polarity recently, Mkpat Enin Ward Leaders Union has taken decisive steps to quell the political tussle in the area, broker peace among warring factions as well as solicit collective collaboration for the advancement of Governor Umo Eno’s A.R.I.S.E agenda.
Recall that Mkpat Enin in recent time had witnessed a growing political tussle on the issue of political leadership. This development signalled drums of war reverberating through the area.
However, the ward leaders in a meeting held recently expressed dismay at the escalating tussle as well as well as appeal to political leaders of the area not to allow personal interests overshadow the welfare of the citizens and not to allow disunity and strife to prevail.
At the meeting, the Ward Leaders Union appreciated the efforts of His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, who also happens to be an in-law of the area, for the successful launch of the A.R.I.S.E. agenda, which according to them is an ambitious program, once implemented will elevate Akwa Ibom State to new heights of development and progress.
They applauded the Governor’s community-based administration, which empowers the party and Ward Leaders to nominate Personal Assistants to the Governor, as a step towards inclusive governance.
Also, the Union expressed gratitude to the Governor for appointing one of their own, Professor Eno James Ibanga, as Commissioner for Works and Fire Service for the second time, describing the appointment as a blessing to the area and a testament to Governor Eno’s commitment to recognizing professionals.
Amidst the celebration of achievements, the Union felicitated with Senator Dr. Ekong Sampson on his election and subsequent inauguration as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Member representing Mkpat Enin State Constituency, Hon. Uwem Imoh-Ita, in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.
To address the pressing issue of political tension and safeguard the area’s unity and peaceful co-existence, the Ward Leaders Union established a seven-member reconciliation committee, to mediate between conflicting parties and present a comprehensive report within a month’s time.
The members are, Hon. Anietie Sunday, Chairman (Chapter Chairman, PDP), Obong Paul Atta (Former NYSC Director), Secretary; Hon. Udo Sam Umoatan(Former Chairman, Mkpat Enin LGA), Hon. Akparawa Mfon Nkanteen (Former Chairman, Mkpat Enin LGA), Hon. Ephraim Akpan (Former Chairman, Mkpat Enin), Mr. Ini Akpan (Former Secretary, Mkpat Enin and Member SUBEB), and Engr. Samuel Rufus (and Industrialist).
In the unanimous agreement, the Union through its Chairman, Rev Obot Ekanem advised all Mkpat Enin leaders to set aside personal interests and prioritize the A.R.I.S.E. agenda championed by the Governor, as well as refrain from engaging in political struggles that could potentially divide the community and distract them from the shared vision of the Governor’s transformative plans.
However, to further strengthen local leadership and administration, the Ward Leaders called on all warring factions to align with the leadership provided by the representatives of Mkpat Enin, in the persons of Senator representing the constituency at the Federal level, the Commissioner, the House Member, the Local Government Chairman, Party Executives, and Ward Leaders.
