The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has taken swift action in a meeting held on Tuesday to punish Yunusa Ari.
It is not new that the Adamawa State rerun gubernatorial election held on April 15, 2023, was marred by controversy.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) unlawfully declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Aisha Binani, as the winner of the highly contested election.
Following a closed-door meeting held on April 18, 2023 by all national commissioners of INEC, the commission has announced that it has taken a series of decisions to address the irregularities that occurred during the election.
In a statement released on its official Twitter account, the commission revealed that it had resolved to take immediate action against the REC for Adamawa State.
The commission declared its intention to write to the Inspector-General of Police, calling for an immediate investigation into the actions of Barr. Hudu Yunusa Ari.

INEC has also requested the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to bring the unwholesome behaviour of the REC to the attention of the appointing authority for further action.
In a bid to ensure that the collation process is transparent and free from any form of manipulation, INEC has also announced that the process shall resume at a time to be determined by the Returning Officer.

At its meeting today, 18th April 2023, the Commission discussed matters arising from the Adamawa Governorship election and decided to:
1. Write to the Inspector-General of Police for the immediate investigation and possible prosecution of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Adamawa State, Barr. Hudu Yunusa Ari.
2. Request the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to draw the attention of the appointing authority to the unwholesome behaviour of the REC for further action.
3, The collation process shall resume at a time to be determined by the Returning Officer.

However, APC’S gubernatorial candidate, Aisha Binani Dahiru has taken legal action against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.
She is seeking a legal review of INEC’s decision to invalidate her declaration as the authentic winner of the gubernatorial rerun election of April 15, 2023.
