The former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has expressed his commitment to serving Nigerians as a minister in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.
Addressing the red chamber during his screening on Monday afternoon, Wike assured the Senators that his passion and dedication to public service will drive him to excel in his new role.
Wike’s nomination by President Tinubu marked a significant development, as he is the only chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the ministerial list of the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.
Wike Promises to Deliver
Recalling his accomplishments during his tenure as the Governor of the oil-rich Niger Delta state from May 2015 to May 2023, Wike highlighted numerous completed infrastructure projects that he initiated.
Emphasizing the importance of dedication and passion in public service, he distinguished himself from politicians who merely sought positions for personal gain.

“I believe, knowing how hungry Mr. President is to solve the problems of Nigeria, we have no choice but to give him the required support.
“And I can assure you, if I am confirmed in whatever capacity, Mr. President will not regret nominating me,” Wike confidently stated, pledging his commitment to contribute to the nation’s progress.
His statement resonated with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who lauded Wike’s competence and capacity to deliver in office.
The screening process began on Monday afternoon, with 20 out of the 28 ministerial nominees completing their documentation for review.

President Tinubu forwarded a list of 28 ministerial nominees to the Senate for confirmation on July 27, 2023.
Notable figures on the list include former Governors Nyesom Wike, Dave Umahi, Nasir El Rufai, and Abubakar Badaru.
The list includes other prominent individuals, such as Dele Alake, Abubakar Kyari, and Lateef Fagbemi.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the list on the Senate floor.
